In this session, we’ll be working on Assembly Steps 3 to 7.
To start….grab a cup of coffee or tea or wine, get seated nice and comfy, and read Steps 3 to 8. A refresher of what we’ll be doing this week!
BACK TO WORK!
Now’s the time to put your walking foot on your sewing machine!
At Step 3, fuse fabric A square, on point, exactly in the centre of the batting. The 4 points of the square should be lined up with the pencil lines on the batting.
The key is checking alignment of curves and rectangles before fusing. The pattern diagrams are quite good, plus I’ve added some photos below.
AND make sure the tips will align with the pencil centre line.
Do a test check before you sew. With the pins along the edge at 1/4″ in, you can fold back the rectangle and double check the alignment. Then of course turn your pins in the usual direction!
Work through to the end of Step 7.
Don’t forget those last 4 Curve Units made with the binding fabric!
Time to think about what colour and kind of thread you want to use for next week’s topstitching: thread that blends into the runner, thread that stands out or adds glitz. Make sure you have the thread you need and the appropriate needle.
